There is something about May that screams celebration. Especially this year, with the long winter and late spring, it has been a riot of flowers, allergies and happy life events. In my Vistage groups there has been a lot of transitions and new beginnings from high school graduations and college acceptances to acquisitions or sales of businesses. The economy continues to be positive and looks like it might continue through the rest of the year.
So, stop for a minute, breathe deep and celebrate May. Cherish the good days. Sometime this week I was talking with a Member who has been struggling with staff changes, reorganizing the company, moving personally and extended family with health issues. They have all been in the mix for the last few months and have finally come to a resolution. We both heaved a big sigh of relief. It is not that we can’t get through the hard times, It is not that there won’t be hard times. There will be. It is just that you can get so used to wearing the battle armor all the time that you can’t relax and take it off.
We know that fighting the good fight every day, all day, is not good for your health long term. You need down time, too. Stress is bad for your heart. Laughter, fun, celebrating the good times, taking vacation, playing video games, dancing now and then-all good.
So, here is to celebration! Today is cinco de mayo-a minor holiday in Mexico that celebrates the defeat of the French in Puebla, Mexico in 1862. Here in the US, it is a big holiday that celebrates tequila and guacamole. Seems like it is a great excuse for margaritas and micheladas.
And today for us – a reason for champagne. Our daughter Elena got engaged to her boyfriend Sean in our backyard. Congratulations to them! It is so sweet to celebrate new beginnings and the promise of May!
