Do you start your day setting an intention? Something like: “Today, I will be grumpy, mean and an all around disruptor.” Or “My kids didn’t sleep, so I didn’t sleep, so you will all pay!!” Likely not. If you set an intention, it might be “May I help one person today.” Or, “may I stay focused and complete the top 3 things on my list.” Setting an intention may ground you when the day starts to go off track.

Some 1% better intentions could be, I will on time to all my meetings today. Or, I will stand up and take a break once an hour for 4 minutes. Or, I will eat slowly and mindfully. At the end of the day, we can say I did good today.

When we can, we can think bigger than that. We can set an intention around who we want to be in the world.

Being a calm presence in an anxious world. Being a light. Causing no harm. Being a stand for kindness.

Last Sunday, I went to a Memorial Service for Bill Hawfield who spoke to my Vistage groups first in 2000. He was a light in this world. Bill was curious about everyone. He lived his belief that he could learn from anyone and everyone. Bill made everyone around him a better person. He did his own Visual Planning and executed against his intentions, just as he advised thousands of people to do over the years. Bill was a light.

May you live a big intention this week.
