What is the one thing you will stop doing in 2026? What could free time, make you happier, healthier, smarter, more financially secure?

Here are some “to-don’t’s” I have read lately that sounded genius to me:

  1. Don’t place an order on line for 24 hours. If you still want/need it then, order it.
  2. No blue light screens after 9 pm.
  3. Don’t sit in a chair all day. Sit on the floor. Stand up. Squat.
  4. Don’t give away your time.
  5. Don’t read your email until you have done the first hour of focused activity.
  6. Don’t say yes. Start with no.

If you choose one thing you will stop doing in 2026 you will feel more successful, happier and maybe healthier.

If you still  don’t know what that one thing is, you might think about your biggest regret from 2025. Daniel Pink talks about this in The Power of Regret. The point is not to wallow in regret. It is to understand what the regret teaches about future actions. We may regret an action not taken. How can we set up our lives not to have that same regret this year?

I regret being so busy last year. How do I set up my time to slow down? What am I willing to give up? So if all screens are off by 9 pm, I can be asleep by 10. That means I can get up by 6 which means I can work out or sit quietly for 1/2 hour. That means I will be ready to focus, enjoy and be fully present for my day. The day becomes easier. It seems pretty logical and definitely doable. SO I will begin with number 2 on the list.

What is the one thing you will stop doing in 2026?
