Is it a lack of imagination? I got my second covid vaccine on Friday and I’m wondering: what changes?

I am examining my life over the last year under Covid rules to rethink the future. Call it Covid based budgeting instead of zero based budgeting*. So what gets added to my home bound life of the last year?

Thinking about it as I lay in bed with second shot shivers, I came to the conclusion that nothing really changes immediately, not until we all can get the vaccine. But, I can dream again of traveling and maybe make a plan for the summer. Perhaps, I can plan Vistage meetings in person…for June? My frantic driving schedule to make all those in person 1-2-1’s happen is a thing of the past.  I’m done with all that driving.

What will I keep? I will keep the greater connection to dear friends who live far away through zoom calls. I will still sit in the back yard and appreciate the birds and the fresh morning air in the early morning rather than rush off to join the line on the freeway. And, I will still be on time to that 8 am meeting feeling blessed that I have that option.

I look forward to seeing more friends and sharing meals together. I want to see a live performance inside and not freak out at so many people in one place even if we wear masks. Relaxing in the presence of other people, wow! Perhaps the weddings that have been postponed will now be able to take place. I can’t imagine putting on heels again…

maybe I won’t!

*Zero based budgeting was developed at Texas Instruments and used by then Governor Jimmy Carter in 1973 to review every program in the budget not just new items. It was adopted by the US government 3 years later. The premise was that budgets were bloated with costs that were no longer necessary. Every program had to be justified every year to stay in.
