This is not therapy. It is a safe place to struggle with important issues. Should I make that acquisition? Should I bet the whole farm on this idea? How do I move a family member out of the business? Why am I stuck?
Business is not by nature a place to get nurtured, it is a place to perform. Vistage has always said that it is lonely at the top, but it is unsafe or lonely at all levels of a business. To have an outside board of advisors that gives you feedback on who you are being, the plan you are proposing, next steps – how do you place a value on that?
To watch the “ah-ha” moment when the Member sees the path forward while processing their opportunity/issue is inspiring and validating for all the other Members. They know they will receive that same level of support and insight when they bring their issue to the group. So, they organize their calendar to spend one day a month with their peer group.
