With the LA Olympics occurring 2 years from now, tickets will be available for purchase again next week. I was notified that I will finally have a 30 minute time slot to buy up to 12 tickets either the day of my CE Vistage meeting or the next day during my KEY group meeting. They will tell me 24 hours ahead. Uh-oh. I hope I get the 12 noon time slot.
If you live in LA or one of the other cities hosting events, the drama is huge. Who got a time slot? Are they going to use it? How much are tickets to the events you want to attend? OMG, did you see the service charges? Who can afford to go?
Lovely that within the extended family, we previously were able to get tickets to an Athletics Final at the LA Coliseum and the women’s Soccer bronze medal final which we just discovered is in San Diego. We are hoping to get Gymnastics, Beach Volleyball and Diving and/or Swimming.
I love attending the Olympics! In 1984, the torch was carried 2 blocks from our house and I was thrilled. The whole city planned for traffic and there was none. All the whiners left town and it was a joyous party for everyone else. I attended the finals of track and field when bare foot runner Zola Budd and Mary Decker bumped and Mary fell. Neither medaled in the 3000. I saw mens gymnastics and volleyball. There were free concerts and people from all over the world. It was fantastic.
As a result, I went to the summer games in Barcelona 1992 and saw the US Dream Team in Basketball win the gold. In Sydney 2000, I saw the first Aboriginal woman win gold when Cathy Freeman won the 400. I took my daughters to the winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002. We froze watching the mens snowboard races and never forgot the experience. If memories are what makes life rich, the Olympics in person should not be missed.
As I envision my schedule 2 year from now, I savor the possibility of attending events and meeting people from all over the world who come to explore the City of the Angels. It will be a party!
