Last night driving back from the first dressy event we have been to in 2 1/2 years, Paul swerved but could not avoid something in the lane and ran over it with the right front tire. Boom! It was not a box. It was part of a desk or a book shelf. We thought we had popped the tire. Luckily, we were a mile from our exit and made it home. Just, roll with it, right? No one was hurt. We could deal with it in the morning.

Now in the morning light we go out to assess the damage. Good news: the tire is okay. Bad news: it looks like the whole undercarriage is damaged and we ain’t driving this thing until it is fixed. Did I tell you I was supposed to drive my cross country visitor to the beach to visit her niece first thing this morning? And, Paul had planned to babysit the grandson in midcity? So, we made a new plan. She took Lyft, Paul went off to see the grandbaby and I am making insurance claims, feeling sad for my faithful Audi, and updating my Lyft app.

Here is my point: I can choose my attitude about this event. I could shake my fist at the gods, complain about whoever was careless enough to have this drop off their truck and make your day worse by having to listen to my rant. Or, I can put in the insurance claim and take the time that just freed up to walk the dog through the neighborhood as spring flowers are beginning to bloom.

I am choosing to focus on the flowers. I am choosing to be grateful. Grateful that no one was hurt. Grateful that I can afford to pay the deductible. This week, pay attention to choosing your attitude when things do not go as planned. Try to roll with it.
