They start at Dodger Stadium and run down Sunset Blvd to Hollywood Blvd. Continuing back on Sunset Blvd they turn on Santa Monica Blvd and after 26.2 miles they cross the finish line (hopefully) in Century City and collapse, or stagger to a tent or cheer joyfully as their bodies shake from fatigue. It is a beautiful day in Los Angeles about 60 degrees. May they have a great run.
Every day for months and months these folks have been thinking about running. They have been planning and executing their work out schedules. They have been hydrating and eating and tending to the aches and pains that go with training. They have made conscious choices about managing their other activities to get their training in so they can succeed today.
Success may be walking the 26.2 miles. It may be completing it in under 5 hours or 4 hours. It may be finishing in the top 1000. Each one has a goal.
What marathon are you running? Every day you get up. You are thinking of something. You have a schedule. You eat and drink and tend to the aches and pains that go with your daily life. You make conscious choices to achieve success at something. Or maybe not. Is there intentionality to the choices you make in your day, or are they mostly unconscious? You may have programmed a series of healthy habits that make running your daily marathon fairly successful. If so, is there any tweak that would make it 2% better? For most of us, we have programmed some misery into our day that with conscious focus we could remove and thus reduce the unnecessary struggle. What is that for you?
Enjoy the 27,000 inspiring folks making it down the streets of our city of a million stories and for yourself, choose one little change to improve your stride.
